Rest Through the Rush

Like many college students, I am currently running on a scarce amount of sleep and an abundant supply of caffeine. Although an unhealthy consumption of caffeine will provide a jolt of energy, it cannot give me rest. How can we find true rest when we barely have time to sleep? When our to-do list is longer than the distance we walk to class? When we desire to spend time in the Word of the Lord, but have a thousand-word essay due at midnight?

Matthew 11:28 states, "Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

The Lord wants us to come as we are. To come to Him, as weary students burdened with the weight of our assignments and the stress of our schedules. Coming to Him can be as simple as worshiping Him on the walk to class and praying for strength as we complete our assignments.

Isaiah 40:28-29 says, “The Lord is the Everlasting God, the Creator to the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired and weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and power to the weak.” When we prioritize our relationship with Him in the midst of our busy routines, He reminds us to rely on His strength over our own. The burden is not ours to carry; Christ carried it on the cross. He will give us strength and rest through the rush. Come to Him.
