Deep in Deadlines
For the student who has endured a hard semester:
College looks fun on the surface, but there are also deep waters to walk through. There are times I was sinking deep in deadlines, as wave after wave of emotion crashed over me. Assignment after assignment compounded, along with my stress. Every new responsibility felt like a drop of water. One drop does not carry the weight to drown you. However, as drop after drop compounds, you reach rock bottom.
Maybe you feel like you have reached rock bottom this semester. You are not alone. In the Bible, David stated he wanted to “wander far off, and remain in the wilderness” (Psalm 55:7). Like David, maybe your wilderness is far away from your college campus, in the comfort of your own home.
When you feel like you are sinking to rock bottom, unable to keep swimming through the rough currents and high tides of college, remember: when you go through deep waters, He is with you. David goes on to say, “As for me, I call to the Lord, and He saves me. Evening, morning, and noon I cry out in distress, and He hears my voice… cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you, He will never let the righteous be shaken.” (Psalm 55:16, 22).
As you finish the semester, cast your cares on the Lord. Enjoy your well deserved break, and rest in the assurance He will strengthen you to endure another semester. For He sees you, He hears you, and He cares for you.
