Summer of Simplicity.
A simple summer. The breath of fresh air I didn’t know I needed.
During the school year, I was not looking forward to summer. Hearing friends’ plans to travel the world and study abroad, I dreaded being confined to the city limits of my small hometown, working an 8-5 job. I thought living in my childhood home would cause me to regress. Instead, it has served as a catalyst, propelling me to progress. What I pictured as confinement has truly been refinement.
In the Bible, a man named Joseph was brought into Egypt after being sold into slavery. He was literally in confinement. However, even while Joseph was serving Pharaoh as a slave, the Lord was with him, as stated in Genesis 39:2. Joseph worked with a spirit of excellence, serving his one true Master. Therefore, the Lord favored Joseph and “caused all that he did to succeed in his hands''. Eventually, Joseph was appointed..from Prisoner to Price.
Excellence in the small things leads to success in the large things. May the story of Joseph serve as a reminder to find purpose in your placement, whether it is studying abroad, on a mission trip, at a church camp, or at home. When you work for the Lord, not for human masters, you can be a witness in any workplace. For your mission field is wherever your feet are.
